The Command Department is made up of the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer (if assigned), and the Chief of the Boat. The Command Department is responsible for all operations of the ship and missions it is assigned.
|Commanding Officer||Ultimately responsible for the ship and crew, the Commanding Officer is the most senior officer aboard a vessel. S/he is responsible for carrying out the orders of Starfleet, and for representing both Starfleet and the Federation.|
|Chief of the Boat||The seniormost Chief Petty Officer (including Senior and Master Chiefs), regardless of rating, is designated by the Commanding Officer as the Chief of the Boat (for vessels) or Command Chief (for starbases). In addition to his or her departmental responsibilities, the COB/CC performs the following duties: serves as a liaison between the Commanding Officer (or Executive Officer) and the enlisted crewmen; ensures enlisted crews understand Command policies; advises the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer regarding enlisted morale, and evaluates the quality of noncommissioned officer leadership, management, and supervisory training.
The COB/CC works with the other department heads, Chiefs, supervisors, and crewmen to insure discipline is equitably maintained, and the welfare, morale, and health needs of the enlisted personnel are met. The COB/CC is qualified to temporarily act as Commanding or Executive Officer if so ordered.
|Sigma Division Commander|
The Operations Department is responsible for all Helm, Navigation, Computer Operations, and Auxiliary operations aboard the ship. The Operations Department is also responsible for all non-engineering maintenance of the ship.
|Operations Officer||The Operations Officer (OPS) is the department head responsible for all operations of the department and its activities throughout its many divisions. The Operations Officer is responsible for the management of the department's schedule, ensuring all assigned duties are carried out within the department and ensuring all Officers assigned to the department are properly trained and fit for duty. OPS is also responsible for supporting the Operations Chief in all matters regarding the NCOs and Enlisted Crew assigned to the department.
OPS is a member of the Senior Staff, reports to the XO (or CO if not assigned), and is ranked Lieutenant or above.
|Chief Boatswain's Mate||The Chief Boatswains Mate is responsible for managing all helm and navigation operations as well as non-engineering maintenance aboard the ship. The non-rates assigned to the operations department are supervised by the Chief Boatswains Mate. The Chief Boatswains Mate reports to the OPS.
The Chief Boatswains Mate is the only Non-Commissioned Officer who is required to be qualified as Officer of the Deck.
|Boatswain's Mate||Boatswains Mate (BM) - the masters of all things aboard the ship the Boatswains mate can be found assisting in almost any type of shipboard operation. They are masters of navigation, controlling the helm, and training other members of the crew to perform those duties. The BMs aboard Aquarius are ranked Petty Officer Third to First Class (BM3-BM1) and report to the First Lieutenant.|
|Operations Specialist||Operations Specialist (OS) - while trained and tasked primarily with operating sensor systems an OS is responsible for coordinating with all other ratings aboard a unit. They are able to fulfill all watch standing operations from Tactical, Operations, Engineering, Communications, and more. Operations Specialists are ranked Petty Officer Second and Third Class.|
|Computer Systems Specialist||Computer Systems Specialist (CS) - responsible for the maintenance and repair of the main computer core of the vessel and other computer systems as necessary. A CS can be ranked between Petty Officer Third and First Class (CS3-CS1).|
|Non-Rate||Non-rates (Crewman Apprentice/Crewman) assigned to the Operations Department are responsible for serving as helmsman and carrying out non-engineering maintenance operations aboard ship. The Non-rates report to the ship's Boatswains Mates and the First Lieutenant.|
The Engineering Department is responsible for all power systems, propulsion systems, and life support systems of the ship. The Engineering Department also assigns personnel to assist the operations department in non-engineering maintenance as well.
|Chief Engineer||The Engineering Officer (ENG) is responsible for the operation of the Engineering Department and the management of its personnel. The Engineering Officer reports directly to the Executive Officer.|
|Assistant Engineer||The Assistant Engineering (AENG) is a junior officer assigned to assist the Engineer in their duties of managing the department. The AENG can be assigned to cover divisional officer roles as needed. The AENG is also responsible for ensuring that all personnel becomes qualified for Engineering Watch positions on behalf of the ENG. The AENG reports directly to the Engineer.|
|Machinery Technician||Machinery Technician (MK) - the title a holdover from years past a Machinery Technician is responsible for all engineering aspects at a unit. They generally deal with non-propulsion systems however they receive extra training and can serve in any engineering division.|
|Damage Controlman||Damage Controlman (DC) - responsible for emergency maintenance of a ship or specialized unit outside of engineering spaces. They are also responsible for the training of all members of the crew to handle engineering casualties in case of an emergency.|
|Electrician's Mate||Electricians Mate (EM) - responsible for managing all power distribution services, equipment, and computer systems related to them. The EMs are ranked Petty Officer Third to Second Class and report to the EM Lead Petty Officer.|
|Propulsion Specialist||Propulsion Specialist (PS) - responsible for the maintenance and operation of all propulsion-generating engineering systems|
|Engineer's Mate||Engineers Mates are Non-Rates (Crewman Apprentice/Crewman) who are assigned to the Engineering Department.|
Tactical and Security encompasses the management, maintenance, and use of the shipboard tactical systems, runing the shipboard armory and responsible for the onboard weapons training, weapons maintenance, and shipboard security.
|Tactical/Security Officer||The Tactical/Security Officer (TAC/SEC) is responsible for the operation of the Weapons Department which includes all tactical and shipboard security operations. TAC/SEC is responsible for managing his department's schedule, training, and watch rotations. The TAC/SEC reports to the Executive Officer (or CO if not assigned).|
|Gunner's Mate||Gunners Mate (GM) - from maintaining the armory and small weapons inside to controlling the inventory of shipboard ordinance and standing watch on a bridge tactical station the GMs aboard units have multi-faceted duties that are critical to operational success and safety of a unit.|
|Master-at-Arms||The Masters-at-Arms (MA) in Starfleet make up the police force for the agency and are responsible for all security operations, diplomatic security, VIP security, and investigations involving any Starfleet property, facilities, or personnel.|
The Medical Department is responsible for all of the primary medical care for the crew as well as any emergency medical care situations that may arise for the crew, visitors, and others that the ship may come into contact with.
|Medical Officer||The Medical Officer (MO/Doc) is the medical director of the ship's medical department. They are responsible for directing all clinical and administrative operations of the department. The MO has the authority to remove any member of the crew from duty, including the CO, for a medical reason.
The MO reports directly to the Commanding Officer and shall be an attending board-certified physician.
|Corpsman||Health Service Technician (HS) better known as Corpsman are responsible for providing primary and emergency medical care to all those aboard their units and civilians during an emergency situation. Corpsman are trained to provide basic to advanced care including minor surgeries, diagnostic testing, and preventive medicine.|
|Science Technician||Science Technician (ST) - responsible for assisting with all experiments aboard unit scientific facilities. An ST could be detailed with monitoring, conducting, or designing controlled experiments. They are often part of away missions and can also be responsible for programming remote sensors and probes.|
